Edwin & Florence Sperry

Charles Edwin & Florence M. Sperry

Charles Edwin and Florence M. Sperry created a lasting legacy in the town they called home.

The Sperrys lived in Piqua, where they owned and operated the former Sperry Jewelry Store for 36 years. They were active members of the community and clearly had a deep love for the place they called home.

The story goes that Florence learned through conversations with her sister, who was involved with her local community foundation, about the impact a community foundation can have. Florence asked whether Piqua had a community foundation of its own. That simple question ultimately led to a meaningful gift from the Sperrys.

Although Florence made the gift through her estate, it was a reflection of the generosity and love for Piqua that she and Charles shared. Their gift established the unrestricted Charles Edwin and Florence M. Sperry Fund, which now helps support The Foundation’s semiannual community grantmaking.

Although there was never an opportunity to meet the Sperrys, their generosity continues to make a difference in the community they called home. Their gift is a lasting legacy of their love for Piqua and their desire to see the community thrive for generations to come.
