G William Hartzell

G. William Hartzell

George William “Bill” Hartzell was instrumental in continuing the Hartzell family businesses in Piqua for many years, and was a major supporter of the Piqua community. Mr. Hartzell passed away on April 30, 2016; a bequest made as a result of his estate planning will allow funds to financially continue his generosity to the community.

An advisory committee recommends fund activity, making two types of distributions as specified by Mr. Hartzell.

The first is a scholarship fund, which provides scholarships to worthy local students attending institutions of higher learning. Eligible students must have lived within the Piqua School district during high school, graduated from Piqua High School, or be a child or grandchild of a Hartzell Industries employee.

The second fund makes grants to charitable not-for-profit organizations serving Piqua area residents. These grants, awarded each fall, provide unrestricted funding to organizations offering vital programming for our local citizens.

Because of the size of the funds, the grants and scholarships will make a significant difference in the lives of the students and community organizations that receive them. The Foundation is proud to be able to continue Mr. Hartzell’s long history of generosity to his fellow Piqua residents.
