Foundation Administering

Hartzell Scholarship

The Piqua Community Foundation annually facilitates the Robert and Miriam Hartzell Memorial Scholarships. Those who successfully apply through the Foundation each year receive funds granted through the Hartzell-Norris Trust, Fifth Third Bank, trustee.

The recipients of the scholarships for the 2017-18 school year include:

  •  Jordan Booker of Piqua High School
  •  Marie Ewing of Miami East High School
  •  Kara Gillman of Lehman Catholic High School
  •  Trey Wiley of Troy High School

These scholarships are awarded to one graduating senior at each of the following schools each year:  Piqua High School, Troy High School, Miami East High School, and Lehman Catholic High School.  Applicants must be planning to attend an accredited 4-year college or university and must display academic achievement, school involvement, and upstanding character.  Applications are available through the senior counselors at each school, beginning in late January of each year. Completed applications are returned to the counselors by mid-March, and winners are notified at their senior awards assemblies in May. Once earned, the scholarship is renewable for up to four years for a student maintaining a 3.0 G.P.A. or above.  The annual $2500 award per student allows for a $10,000 scholarship total; the Foundation distributes $40,000 per year from this scholarship fund.

The Foundation thanks the Hartzell-Norris Trust, Fifth Third Bank, and the scholarship selection committee for the ability to help these worthy students with their educations.
