The Board of Directors of The Piqua Community Foundation is announcing the establishment of the G. William Hartzell Charitable Fund, a new donor advised fund held by The Foundation. George William “Bill” Hartzell was instrumental in continuing the Hartzell family businesses in Piqua for many years, and was a major supporter of the Piqua community. Mr. Hartzell passed away on April 30 of last year; a bequest made as a result of his estate planning will allow the fund to financially continue his generosity to the community.
An advisory committee will recommend grant recipients, making distributions of two types as Mr. Hartzell had specified. Beginning in May 2017, the fund will make scholarships to worthy local students attending institutions of higher learning. Later in the year, the fund will begin to make grants to charitable not-for-profit organizations serving Piqua area residents.
This year’s scholarship eligibility will be extended to both graduating high school seniors and to students already enrolled in a college or university. Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:
1) During high school, applicant must have lived within the Piqua school district, or
2) Applicant must have graduated from or be graduating from Piqua High School, or
3) Applicant must be directly related to an employee of Hartzell Industries (either as child or grandchild.)
Applications must be submitted by April 30, 2017.
