G. William Hartzell Community Grants
Do you know of any local charitable organizations serving Piqua that could use extra funds? The Piqua Community Foundation has established a new grant program from the G. William Hartzell Charitable Fund that may be able to help.
G. William Hartzell Grants will be made available to charitable organizations serving the Piqua community. Mr. Hartzell was instrumental in continuing the Hartzell family businesses in Piqua for many years and was a major supporter of the Piqua community. The donor advised fund established through his estate planning allows The Foundation to financially continue his generosity to the community.
The grants will not be earmarked for specific programs or projects, so the organizations that receive them may use the funds for any purpose allowed by regulations governing not-for-profit organizations. Foundation Executive Director, Karen Wendeln, explained the grants’ purpose. “Our local charitable organizations have other opportunities to seek project funding for a new or continuing program, but very little funding is available for the day-to-day operational challenges that organizations often face. While these new grants may be used to start or expand a program, they could also be used to make building repairs, pay the electric bill, or help with cash flow.”
Organizations interested in receiving the grants must complete the application form CLICK HERE – and must return the form prior to the August 31 deadline. Organizations will be considered by the advisory committee, based on their missions and their efforts toward improving life for residents of Piqua. Eligibility will not be affected by the receipt of a grant from any other fund of The Piqua Community Foundation.
Schools and their teachers are not eligible to apply, since so many of The Foundation’s existing grants are made to schools. Organizations that operate programs held in the school systems (such as U.V.M.C. Rachel’s Challenge, Brukner Nature Center wildlife programs, etc.) may apply.
The committee will determine the amount of each grant made – those made to different organizations in a given year may not be equal. Following approval by The Foundation’s Board of Directors at their October meeting, successful applicants will receive their grants in November at the Foundation’s annual meeting.
