Scott & Margaret Hinsch
The Scott J. Hinsch and Margaret W. Hinsch Community Service Awards were established in 2015 to honor the memory of these two outstanding Piqua volunteers.
- Margaret Hinsch was a long-time Girl Scout leader who served many years on the board of trustees of the Buckeye Trails Girls Scout Council. She was charter president of the P.T.A. of Nicklin Avenue School, active with Meals on Wheels of Piqua, the Piqua Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and was a trustee of the Flesh Public Library for 43 years.
- Scott Hinsch served as trustee of Piqua Memorial Medical Center and Upper Valley Medical Center for 49 years, serving as Piqua Memorial Board chair for 13 years. He organized the Miami County Society for Crippled Children and Adults (Easter Seals) in 1947 and served as the Seal Sale Chairman until it became a statewide organization. He was a director and trustee of the Miami County Y.M.C.A., volunteered for Meals on Wheels of Piqua, the Piqua Improvement Corporation, Piqua Rotary Club, the Edison State Community College Nursing Advisory Committee, and American Legion Post #184.
Each year, the Hinsch Awards are made to one man and one woman volunteer. Honorees are selected based on activities done on behalf of a single organization in one specific calendar year. Nominees are proposed by the charitable organization or school, and the group whose nominee is selected is awarded a $2,000 grant in honor of that outstanding volunteer. The fund that provides the monetary awards was established in The Piqua Community Foundation by Scott and Margaret Hinsch’s children and their spouses, John and Marsha Hinsch and Linda and the late Bob Campbell.
