G William Hartzell

G. William Hartzell

George William “Bill” Hartzell was instrumental in continuing the Hartzell family businesses in Piqua for many years, and was a major supporter of the Piqua community. Mr. Hartzell passed away on April 30, 2016; a bequest made as a result of his estate planning will allow the fund to financially continue his generosity to the community.

An advisory committee recommends fund activity, making distributions of two types as Mr. Hartzell had specified. Beginning in May 2017, the fund has made scholarships available to worthy local students attending institutions of higher learning. Eligible students must have lived within the Piqua School district during high school, graduated from Piqua High School, or be a child or grandchild of an employee of Hartzell Industries. In the fall of each year, the fund makes grants to charitable not-for-profit organizations serving Piqua area residents. These grants provide unrestricted funding for some of the organizations providing important programming for our local citizens.

Because of the size of the fund, the grants and scholarships will make a significant difference in the lives of the students and community organizations that receive them. The Foundation is proud to be able to continue Mr. Hartzell’s long history of generosity to his fellow Piqua residents.
